From the viewpoint of sociology, BSOG-173 examines the concepts of development. Taking a multidisciplinary perspective, it traces the development experience of India from different approaches. Four themes – or blocks – comprise the course. Each block covers a separate area of development. Topics covered in BSOG–173 factors and instruments of development, developed, developing and underdeveloped nations, modernisation, urbanisation and industrialisation, world-system theory, environmental, human, social and feminist perspectives, developmental regimes in India, and issues in development praxis.
